25 Years Illustrating Ourselves
We are proud to celebrate the Quebec Association of Illustrators's 25 years of existence in the heart of the communication and visual arts universes. To commemorate this turning point of its great history, the AIIQ offers its members, friends, collaborators, clients, artistic directors and editors, a colourful evening full of laughs, surprises and a thousand shared memories. This unique soiree will be drawn under the presidency of honour of Mrs Suzanne Duranceau and Mr Philippe Beha. On September 24, join us at Bain Mathieu to witness :
  • The launching of the 21st Illustration Québec directory ;
  • The Soirée Portfolio ;
  • The celebration of our 25th anniversary!

25 Years of History
Throughout its 25 years of existence, the Quebec Association of Illustrators's mandate - to regroup and help illustrators, to promote and broadcast illustration - incessantly materialised itself by its catalogue, network evenings, standard contracts, author rights information, conferences, website and its gallery. Today, the AIIQ counts more than 300 members.

Outline of an History...

Please note that with the desire of worrying about the clarity and the simplicity of the writing, some events and actions were voluntarily omitted by the AIIQ "historians". Thanks for your comprehension!

The Association birth

" In 1981, Communication Jeunesse had organised the first kids books illustration contest of the Quebec province and, at the price hand-over, during the illustrations exhibition preview, we were all astonished to be so many to share the same injustices and generosities of the edition world. Communication Jeunesse had created an occasion to reunite us all: it was wonderful for us to come out of our isolation and to talk about the illustrating job. In this Parc Avenue café, without knowing what was going to happen, we were a dozen illustrators with the desire of creating this association. " (text from Suzanne Duranceau) " Following the event, meeting increased, in 1982, to prepare the future association. Subsequently, we held an auction at Café Campus. "

25 Thousands Thanks
AIIQ sincerely thanks:
  • Our partners for the September 24 event:
  • Its yesterday's members, today's and tomorrow's who, with their support, contribution, belief and force, permitted AIIQ to grow and to blossom.
  • Members from its board of directors who, year after year, succeeded to each other and who did not always had easy moments.
  • Volunteers who constantly implicated themselves on different committee and organisation activities. Without your talents, your hands and your energy, we would not have been able to accomplish so many things.

A special thanks goes to the members of the jury for the Soirée Portfolio, since the selection of the participants is quite a responsibility: there are so many talented illustrators in Québec.

A last thank goes to our kindly volunteers who ardently work to help us organise the magnificent September 24 event:

  • Salim Benachenhou
  • Philippe Ladouceur
  • Marie Mainguy
  • Oussama Mehzer
  • Bruce Roberts
  • And the musicians-illustrators from the band.
